Adaptogenic herbs can be found
all over the planet and can be grown in many different soil types.
You dont have to live on a mountain rich in tropical soil to
grow them. I found a great supplier of medicinal seeds in Horizon
Herbs of Oregon and they helped me find the right seeds based
on my temporal zone. The famed, Ginseng & Echinacia herbs
are Adaptogenic and there are more herbs in that family. See
for yourself. Google Adaptogenic herbs and see what happens.
Try something in a liquid form, tinctures and teas are available
everywhere now, online and at health food stores. When you find
something that tastes good to you, I'ld take it as a sign. I
fell in love with Tulsi, aka Holy Basil. I could write a book,
passionately describing how the seedlings sprout from black,
rich composted soil and evolve into lush, powerfully scented
bushes that made me smile and think good thoughts by simply breathing
the air in around them. Tulsi, from it's native India is the
primary herb in Ayerveda, used medicinally since forever, has
found it's way into the grocery store. There really is no excuse
for not trying an Adaptegen, you don't have to grow your own.
But, you can. And it's easy! You can supply your own daily herb
tea needs with three large patio containers, store bought organic
compost and a few good seeds.
Make tea from your new favorite
Adaptogenic herb and consume it regularly, like water. A decoction,
strong concentrated herbal infusion, can be steeped in an old
glass jar, another reason to buy glass jarred tomato sauce. Three
tea bags steeped for several hours in a cup and a half of hot
water will take you through the day. Add enough filtered or distilled
water to fill a pitcher full and keep it in the fridge or in
your portable water bottle. A tincture of your new favorite Adaptegen,
kept at close, will help to raise your awareness and monitor
your thoughts, making you more mindful. A few drops under your
tongue or in an ounce of water will give you the physical reminder
that everyone needs. I imagine my bodies immune system is like
a force field. For instance, when something goes a little out
of whack, like when my knees ache, my shield gets a little hole
in it and all those tiny little buggers now have a way in. The
same goes for your emotional and spiritual health. Stress is
stress, is stress, is stress. It doesn't matter if it's a physical
injury, mental or emotional trauma. The effect's and manifestations
on you are the same. That's the first step, after that you'll
be more apt to finding other ways to help yourself.
Ladies, women, young and old,
we all have another weakness in common. On the mountain in Costa
Rica, I discovered Primal PMS. Let me just cut to the chase on
this one and save all of you the agony of figuring this out.
Get a calendar, mark a number one on that first dreadful, bloated
and cramping day of your PERIOD. Keep track of the numbered days
and notice that on day 4 your attitude shows signs of improving.
On the 7th day, you think your hair looks nice. And on the 10th
through the 14th days, your feeling a little like Pamela Anderson
in a early nineties episode of Bay Watch. Day 16, 17 and 18 are
starting to bring you down and as you move through the 20's,
closer to day one, you realize. The end is near. It's the end
of everything. Biologically speaking, you didn't accomplish what
you were supposed to. You didn't procreate and you are a failure.
Your life is a mess. Everybody hates you. You are unfulfilled,
fat, ugly and find yourself crying at Shrek and Fiona, over the
love the have found and wishing you had something like it. Of
course this is ridiculous. So please, get on the Dong. Find the
Dong. Do whatever you can to get a tincture sample of the Chinese
wonder root of Dong Quai! Start dropping it in your water on
day 18 and keep dropping until you get to 1 again. Do this and
you'll never look back. Dong Quai taken several times daily,
while on the down side of your feminine cycle will make you feel
like Pamela Anderson everyday and there are some real physical
effects. Soy products also have a positive effect on estrogen
levels. Liver cleansing herbs, like Dandelion can help relieve
the nasties too. I have been known to go through several cartons
of soy milk while on that down hill slide and I'll never forget
my best friend, way down in a PMS fit, crying over a bowlful
of straight-up raw soybeans to bring her out of that deep dark
hole.
Lets just say, I had a lot of
time on my hands up there on that little camping trip. My husband
worked like a five man crew, no electricity, no power tools.
He cleared land by machete and hand mixed cement. There was plenty
of time for me to explore with plants and foods that heal. Now,
back in The States after that four year tropical adventure, we
brought the Pura Vida home. Applying the principals of a Pure
Life here, I'm doing my best to pass it on.

recent nutritional analyses and cultivation information. Enjoy!
The photo is my
home grown Tulsi all chopped up and steeping for several hours
in a tomato sauce jar, lid on tight. I like to shake it every
half hour to get as much medicine out. Strain through cheesecloth
in a large pitcher and fill the rest of the way with filtered
water for happy tea all day long. |
