The Velvet Touch
Q: I have a beautiful Velvet
couch that was left to me by my Grandmother. Unfortunately, I
have two children that love it as much as I do. How is one to
clean this type of fabric without doing any damage to it. If
you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know, or would I be better
off calling in the pros???????
Thanks
K Rankin
Having a beautiful
fabric such as velvet on your couch requires a lot of TLC. If
your couch is completely soiled, have a professional cleaning
company clean it, do not attempt to clean it yourself at home.
For general care: vacuum or brush it with a soft brush regularly
to keep dirt from becoming engrained into the fabric and to keep
the velvet pile raised. Spot clean any stains with some upholstery
shampoo, read the contents of the can to make sure its compatible
with your fabric and for cleaning directions. Make sure to do
a spot test on a hidden area on the couch before cleaning.
P.S. If you want to keep this couch for a long time, you might
want to cover it with a slip cover, or even place some towels
over the arms to keep it clean and from being worn down quickly.
